Livetree Revolutionises How ReFi Creative Impact Ventures Can Raise Money
Livetree is a non-profit, open-source initiative sponsored by Celo, harnessing the collective power of hashtags like #BLM, #PollutionFreeAir, #UnderThePovertyLine, #TakeBackOurChildSoldiers, #ExtremeWeatherEffects, #EndChildPoverty or #ArtistEcoInnovators, transforming how these impact ventures can raise money.
Launched by Livetree and powered by the Celo blockchain, a new network of #collectives is revolutionising how creative impact ventures, regenerative finance projects (ReFi) and activist groups can raise money.
You might want to imagine Livetree as being the better, Web3 version of Patreon, the subscription-service for content creators founded in 2013.
What is a #collective? What do you need to know?

Your collective is ready to start earning from the moment you reserve its valuable hashtag #name on the Livetree app. You might want to call it #PlasticFreeOceans, for example. This #name will be used by yourself and others united around a common cause in order to raise money and decide how to distribute it.
The collective hashtag #name, in this case #PlasticFreeOceans, is registered on the Celo blockchain and a Treasury is created for you (essentially a bank account for your collective).
Your collective’s Treasury holds all the income from your collective, and the members of the collective get to vote on how best to allocate it. In our example, this means members can have their say on how they want to support the cause #PlasticFreeOceans.
The network of #collectives represents a huge evolutionary leap forwards in terms of the real-world applications of Web3 technology, orchestrated by Livetree.
How does a #collective earn money?
There are a few different ways your #collective can start earning money.
One way you can start generating income is by producing pay-to-view content, including masterclasses like the one below by Muhammad, which promotes the #PlasticFreeOceans collective by exploring how to turn waste plastic into art.
Another way your collective can gather revenue is through e-gifts and tips.
When you produce content that people like, they can reward you with donations in the form of digital hearts, flowers, and more, all of which go directly to your collective’s Treasury.
Daniel, for example, has created a dance tagged #PlasticFreeOceans, and is rewarded with e-gifts and tips that go to help the cause he cares about.
Supporters can also pay to ‘pin’ messages to the screen, which can grab the attention of the creator. This promotes an energising interactive/community atmosphere whilst raising funds for your collective.
A cool example of how the ‘pin’ feature is used would be, say, if Jenifer challenged Daniel to a dance-off by pinning a message to his video. The money Jenifer paid to pin her message would go straight to #PlasticFreeOceans, which is tagged in Daniel’s post.
What’s more, the Livetree app makes it possible for Daniel and Jenifer to have a live virtual dance-off, thanks to the fact that it supports multiple people going live together.

A key way that collectives earn money is through the sale of membership coins, whilst being a member of a collective means that you get to give your input into how the collective’s funds are used.
The decentralised structure of Livetree is one of the core principles that defines the app’s unique, paradigm-altering significance, for both collectives and their members.
But rest assured, there is no need to have an existing knowledge of blockchain technology to use membership coins on the Livetree app, which is engineered to be intuitive for users. Members get to support a cause they care about, as well as having access to exclusive creative content accessed through an engaging, usable interface. BUT Livetree is differentiated and dynamized by the fact that members of a collective get to vote on what to do with the funds in the Treasury.
In the example below, the members of #PlasticFree Oceans opt to support research projects where governments have fallen short and to fund the commercialisation of an enzyme that can eat plastic.
And the really awesome thing is that ANY money earned from ANY post tagged #PlasticFreeOceans goes straight to the #PlasticFreeOceans Treasury, which also goes for any other #collective too.
As your #collective gathers momentum, you will benefit from revenue streams generated across your entire network of members and supporters, whilst the revenue is subsequently channeled towards the specific problems the #collective want to solve, and the causes it cares most about.
Members can also be remunerated for their contributions to the #collective network, selling their coins or cashing them out against the Treasury.
